List of Genesis Themes

by Matt · Jul 8, 2015

Recently I have been asked by a few web development clients to give them some ideas about where to look for Genesis themes for their websites. A couple of the website packages we offer at Cap Web Solutions allow clients to choose an existing theme to be implemented on their site with varying degrees of customization.

Genesis Framewor White LogoI always send them first to the StudioPress Theme Selector page. Then I usually identify a few other top tier theme shops and pass along those links. I would go through the typical email copy-n-paste to assemble the lists and then I thought “someone must have already done this. Someone has already built a list of Genesis theme shops.” A tweak of my google search from ‘Genesis theme shops’ to ‘Genesis theme lists’ did the trick. A number of great lists were my reward. I went through a bunch of them, and, well, you know, I stayed near the top of the search results. Don’t we all?

There right near the top was Andrea Whitmer. While she and I have never met face to face, we have had a number of “conversations” via comments on her blogs.  I trust her. After all, she’s the one who calmed my fears about jumping on-board with the Genesis Developer Pro Package last year. And I am soooo glad I did. Anyway, I feel that I can trust her theme shop recommendations to pass them along, untouched, to my web development clients.

So here it is. Andrea has assembled an awesome list of 3rd party theme developers. No doubt you will find something that coincides with your mind’s eye of what your site could look like.

Enjoy!

Themes and Plugins

by Em Are · Nov 24, 2014

This post introduces you to the Themes and Plugins Cap Web Solutions uses on a regular basis. On a regular basis we will be posting additional information about new Genesis.

Primarily, we use free themes and plugins, other than these included with the Genesis Pro Pack (which number more than 60). But here are a few of the freebies that I couldn’t live without either on my own sites or those I develop for others.

Jetpack – Jetpack is a WordPress developed plugin that supercharges your self-hosted WordPress site with the awesome cloud power of WordPress.com. stats, email sign-ups, social integration, to name a few. Excellent package.

BackWPup Free – This plugin can save your butt one day! It can be used to save your complete installation including /wp-content/ and push them to an external Backup Service, like Dropbox, S3, FTP and many more. With a single backup .zip file you are able to easily restore an installation. Every site deserves this protection at a minimum.

Contact Form 7 – Contact Form 7 can manage multiple contact forms, plus you can customize the form and the mail contents flexibly with simple HTML.

WooCommerce – The basis for all eCommerce sites we develop. Delivers enterprise-level quality and features, backed by full support from WooThemes.

Website Management

by Em Are · Nov 1, 2014

MainWP logo

MainWP is a website management tool that I have recently switched to for several of the client sites under support agreements. With MainWP, I have access to one-click updates, backups, cloning, up time monitoring, SEO analysis, and white labeling as I do with InfiniteWP. However, with MainWP I have purchased a number of extensions for things like scheduled backups, updating the same plugin across multiple sites at once, and fully customized customer reports. This last feature sold me immediately as I am able to create detailed reports for customers regarding our activity on their site.

Website Development

by Em Are · Nov 1, 2014

Genesis Framewor White LogoGenesis Framework – I started using Genesis after exhaustive research about frameworks, premium themes, and child themes. What really sold me on this product is the level of support they provide to their customers, and the available components for extending the product.

All new website development work is completed using the Genesis Framework. The child-theme system is well utilized allowing simplified deployment following their well developed demos, or unlimited custom development to make the website a one-of-a-kind marketing tool.

Cap Web Solutions offers fixed fee website implementations following a Genesis theme demo, or will customize your site with your colors and logos.  Stop by our Services page for more information.

Productivity Tools

by Em Are · Nov 1, 2014

Google Apps – Google Apps is a cloud-based productivity suite that includes Gmail for professional email, Drive for online storage, Hangouts for video meetings, Calendar for scheduling and Docs for editing files. I especially like how easy it is to get things done and work with others from anywhere, using any device I choose. I’ve also found Apps to be highly cost-effective at about $5/month per user.

Cap Web Solutions uses Google Hangouts for the majority of its online meetings and client training. The quality of the video and audio far surpasses any other tool I have used.

Introducing Resources and Tools

by Em Are · Nov 1, 2014

As I expand our WordPress business I  come across various resources and tools that are quite worthwhile. Some may be primarily useful to me as a WordPress administration & maintenance service provider, some as a WordPress developer, some as a remote worker, and some as an online business owner. Everything that I recommend in this category I have used, or I am currently using, in the business operations. Take a look and see if they would work in your situation.

Please note: Most of the links in the blog posts under the “Resources” and “Tools” categories are what is referred to as an affiliate link. If you choose to purchase or use the product or service through that link, I will get a small referral fee from the service or product provider. The price of the resource is the same whether or not you use my affiliate link.  This disclaimer will also appear at the bottom of every post that uses an affiliate link.

So here goes. Follow these blog entries using the Resources & Tools selector in the sidebar.
