July 23 Stone Front Emerges Slowly

July 23 Stone Front Emerges Slowly

by EmAre · Jul 23, 2019

Some nice movement to see today. The mortar is being applied to the front of the house where the stone veneer will be installed.

In addition to the stone prep work, the driveway had been graded and appears to be ready for its asphalt topping.

One thing that worried us though is that the sump pump outlet, which used to stick out of the west side of the basement and drain to the side yard, has been relocated to the rear of the house. This concerns me on a number of levels, including what the long run of PVC looks like in the basement, is the sump outlet going to divot the yard, and lastly, can I still attach a deck to the house since the pipe protrudes through the foundation in just the right spot for a deck ledger board.

July 20 Flooring is spreading

July 20 Flooring is spreading

by EmAre · Jul 20, 2019

Carol and I both were able to visit today, so we needed to grab that obligatory selfie (oh, how I hate that word) in front of our new home.

The front door was open and we could hear things happening inside. We took a peak in the front door and were surprised to see the guys installing the wood laminate flooring! It looks as good as we remember.

We peeked in the windows at the rear and could see the carpet padding in place too.

Not only that, but the front sidewalk and driveway apron were complete. Our home now belonged to the neighborhood. The semi-circle was complete.

Oh, an the bath vanity received a fixture. Progress.

While we were on site, we stopped by the model and snapped a few photos. We needed to see where floor vents were, the location of the remaining kitchen cabinets, and a few other things. It really helped us better visualize how our stuff may fit.

Happy birthday Dad. I love you and miss you very much. He would have loved to talk about the moon landing 50 years ago today.

July 19 Brings Siding

July 19 Brings Siding

by EmAre · Jul 19, 2019

At first I didn’t even notice. As I arrived at the property today the first thing I noticed was the framing for the front sidewalk and the driveway apron. Now we were actually part of the Truman St neighborhood – we were connected. I walked around the east side of the house to check out the condition of the electric meter. I wanted to see if is was still in test mode or not.

Wait something’s different here. OMG there’s siding on the house. All the way around. I quickly snapped a pic and texted it to Carol at work. ‘We have siding hon’. Looking around the front of the house there is clear definition where the stone will go.

July 18 Uh-oh, BANG

July 18 Uh-oh, BANG

by EmAre · Jul 18, 2019

Almost twenty years I’ve been making left hand turns across traffic into my driveway at TOH. All accident free. Today, as I attempt to turn into the [email protected] Suites we call home right now, I get wacked in the passenger side front wheel as I inch out into traffic to see if anything is coming. No telling yet whether or not my able bodied 4 wheel bestie is going to make it or not, but she didn’t look too good as they towed her away.

July 15 Electric On Site

July 15 Electric On Site

by EmAre · Jul 15, 2019

As I approach the house today I see a number of things going on. First, I saw that the electric meter was installed on the side of the house as I drove up. That is an important step. Now PECO, our electric and gas supplier, knows we exist. Up to this point, they do not know about us, and if they don’t know about us, we can’t get the gas & electric service set up.

It’s also the first step in having the other service providers know we exist. Verizon is not going to be providing service out here, so we will need to go with Comcast’s Xfinity service for our internet. I can only hope that by the time we close on the house and move in they have upgraded the available services to include the gigabyte service. Fingers crossed.

They are also beginning the grading for the sidewalk our front and the final grading for the side yards. The back is still a mess with lots of run-off and the mess running up to the marsh behind us.

Another big step is that the foundation interior support post have been locked in place. The support footer have been parged and the basement floor is now level. Still has water down there.

July 13 Last Trip Out

July 13 Last Trip Out

by EmAre · Jul 13, 2019

Today was a strange day too. At just about 6p I drove away from This Old House (TOH) for the last time. Today I had cleaned the kitchen and removed the last few items from the house. There was still a pile of trash that had to go to the dump.

When I finally loaded up my truck with the last things, I stopped to grab these last 2 pics of the truck in the empty garage. It had NEVER been this clean, or empty. Even when we purchased the house 12+ years ago, the garage was left full of stuff for us to deal with.

No more. Clean as the proverbial whistle.

July 13 More Cabinets Arrive

July 13 More Cabinets Arrive

The kitchen counter tops have been set in place. The are beautiful pieces of black granite. The master bath received its vanity top too. Looking great. The tub found a home in the guest bath, along with the toilet flange.
